What: A community event. Meet data geeks and music geeks, compete applying your data science skills, and enjoy sharing ideas and experiences with other people

The Competition: You’ll be presented with a music business challenge. You’ll be provided with a large music dataset. You will have to apply your data science skills and knowledge to solve the problem. Best analytical/predictive model wins.
The Challenge: Can you predict if a listener will love a new song?
Dataset: The dataset will be a subset of The EMI One Million Interview Dataset
Prizes: There will be £6,500 in cash prizes and many free goodies
The winning predictive algorithm will be open-sourced to the data science community
Other Useful information
The venue registration opens at 9.30 am on Saturday, 21st of July 2012
Upon arrival to the venue you will have to register at the reception desk.The reception desk should have your name in the list of participants.If you have not registered in evenbrite you will not be in the list. If you are not in the list, you will not be able to participate.
If you arrive after 11.30am you will not be able to participate in the competition.
Competition starts: Saturday, 21st of July 2012 at 1pm London time
Competition ends: Sunday, 22nd of July 2012 at 1pm London time
- You will be provided with 3 proper quality meals (lunch/dinner/breakast), unlimited drinks, coffee & snacks of all kinds.
- High-speed 100Mbps Internet will be available, 12 super HS Wi-Fi routers
- Cisco Telepresence system
- Fantastic ergonomic chairs, furniture, and comfy sofas.
- 12,000 sq ft of open, airy space
- Shower facilities and resting area available at the venue
- Please bring your own laptop and any tools you want.
- Please bring your own sleeping mattress and sleeping bag.

You will be provided with access to the competition web platform via Kaggle. Upon selection of the competition title Music Data Science Competition, you will be able to read the challenge, and access and download the dataset. You can download the dataset to your laptop and you can use your own tools.You will be provided with free access to EMC IT Platform should you choose to run computational jobs there or require more storage capacity. You don’t have to use EMC Platform if you don’t want. You will provided with free access to EMC/Greenplum Hadoop and Database Community editions and other Greenplum analytical tools. You don’t have to use these tools if you don’t want to.
